FAMILY PUPPY HEADSTART
Pups under 6 months old at start of class.
This 6 week course is the best way to get your new pup started on the right track. Share some bonding time with your pup as we show you how to teach your new family member important skills including housetraining, stop puppy biting, accepting handling, stop destructive chewing, teach polite greetings, sit on command, drop stolen objects, proper socialization techniques, understanding and effective communication with your puppy.
FAMILY DOG FOUNDATIONS
no prerequisite
Pups over 6 months and adult dogs
In this 6 week course, you will learn how to effectively communicate with your adolescent dog and build a solid foundation while we focus on skills such as sit, down, stay, come when called, walk without pulling, polite greeting.
FAMILY DOG MANNERS
prerequisite Family Dog Foundations
Using skills learned in the “Foundations” class this 6 week course will focus on teaching your dog to become a well mannered member of your family including working thru distractions, greeting guests, lying quietly during your mealtimes, and putting these skills to use in the real world.
FAMILY DOG ADVANCED
prerequisite Family Dog Manners
This 6 week course will take your dog’s training to the next level by teaching commands at a distance, commands out of sight, using heightened distractions, emergency recall and stop commands, useful tricks each week, intro to off leash work. Limit 6 dogs
CANINE GOOD CITIZEN PREP
This 6-week course will cover the skills necessary to successfully complete the AKC Canine Good Citizen test which is open to purebred and mixed breed dogs. The test items include: 1. Accepting a friendly stranger; 2. Sitting politely for petting; 3. Appearance and grooming; 4. Out For a Walk (walking on a loose lead); 5. Walking thru a crowd; 6. Sit and Down on cue and stay in place; 7. Coming when called; 8. Reaction to another dog; 9. Reaction to distractions; and 10. Supervised separation. The last class will include administering the AKC Canine Good Citizen for each student
REACTIVE DOG CLASS
This 6 week course is appropriate for dogs who suffer from over arousal, aggressive displays and/or fear in the presence of unfamiliar dogs. Learn how to recognize your dog’s body language and emotions and what to do about them. This class focuses on how to change your dog’s emotional response to other dogs and decrease reactivity. We will use counter-conditioning to teach your dog positive associations with other dogs and to pay attention to you. There will be no socialization or interaction between dogs in this class. Required equipment: 6’ leash (no flexi or rope style leashes), well fitted Martingale collar, hungry dog, tons of very small super delicious treats (more than you would ever be able to use at class because you will also be using the treats when you practice at home) Muzzles may be required. Limit 3 dogs
